Happy Birthday "Parque Nacional Cajas"

Cajas National Park is located in the province of Azuay, in southern Ecuador where the Andes is older, less volcanic activity without the high peaks that are so common further north. In this area, the mountains form extensive tablelands of great beauty where water accumulates in large quantities. Cajas are filled with bodies of water: have counted about 165 lagoons with over 1 hectare and 621 with less than 1 hectare; They are in total 786 water bodies. Surely the condors who visit can appreciate its true form from the air: a green rug and gold, very wrinkled and keeps lagoons where every valley connected by small streams. Due to the large number of gaps, the presence of migratory birds and the importance for the capture, storage and supply of water for nearby populations, was recognized as a Ramsar site, or Wetland of International Importance. Since 2002, and through an agreement with the Ministry of Environment, the Cajas National Park is administered by the Municipality of Cuenca.
